Two Men and a Pig
and cats, and dogs, and rabbits, and sheep, and…
Esther the Wonder Pig,
Changing The World One Heart At A Time
I connected immediately with Steve Jenkins when he looked at that tiny pig covered with a flannel blanket in a laundry basket and all he wanted to do was hold her, protect her and bring her home. How could he possibly not take this tiny creature into his home, his heart, and not care for her? At that moment she became his and he became hers, it was instant love. And if you’re an animal lover like myself, you can relate to and understand these emotions.
Rescuing and adopting pets can be challenging and life changing to the pets involved and the humans that adopt them. But what happens when this new love of your life is not all that you imagined?
What if this new love is much MORE than you imagined – much, much, more – literally!
What happens if this “mini pig” you’ve agreed to take into your care, into your life, into your heart, into your home, turns out to be anything but mini? Like 600lbs more than mini!
The story of Steve, Derek and Esther the Wonder Pig, is a roller coaster of emotions. Imagine being told that the “mini pig” you rescued is actually a full size commercial pig? Or having to worry that you will be “found out” and someone will come take your pet away? And if you ever thought training a kitten to use a litter box or potty training a puppy is challenging, imagine what it would be like to get a several hundred pound pig to use a litter box?!
I must say I was cautious of where Steve and Derek might take this story. But in my opinion, Steve and Derek are doing it right. They didn’t alienate me by becoming preachy; they understand that for some it takes time to change, and that even small can changes make a difference.
Esther the Wonder Pig is not your average pet rescue story. It’s a story that changed Esther’s life; and quite possibly the lives of other animals like her. After reading Esther the Wonder Pig, I can say that Steve and Derek’s lives have changed and set them on a path they could never have imagined.
Today, Esther spends her time with Steve and Derek, at their Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary in Campbellville, Ontario, where they continue to share their love with other abandoned and abused farm animals.
Esther the Wonder Pig, Changing The World One Heart At A Time, is available for purchase, May 31, 2016
I have not been financially compensated for this post. I was given the book Esther the Wonder Pig by the publisher, and after reading it I choose to post a review and share with my readers, as I feel this is a book they would relate to and might enjoy reading as well.

A very good friend of ours just helped to save a Pot Bellied Pig. She fostered it for over a month and helped find him a new permanent home. She wasn’t labeled as a mini though. I couldn’t imagine being told a pig was supposed to be a mini and then got huge! I will check into the book .

Even when a dog is rescued, you don’t always know what you are getting (size, temperament etc), but rescuing a pig that you thought was going to remain small and it develops into a 600 lb pig is something else!

Sounds like such a sweet story!

I hear that’s a common problem. Mini pigs that grow to be much bigger than people expect. I’m curious what it is like to raise a pig indoors!

From what I understand, it’s very common for people to adopt what they think or are told, is a mini pig, when they are anything but mini! And I have to applaud Steve and Derek for continuing to raise Esther after realizing what Esther was/is. Not many could do this.

Esther is quite the character! She makes me laugh, but more importantly makes me think.

I’ve always said that once we have land I would like to rescue farm animals. I’d be very interested in reading this story!
May 26, 2016
Wouldn’t it be great to have the land to be able to rescue pets and animals in need. I’d love to be able to do it.

This sounds like a great book, I’m afraid it would put me off bacon, lol! I’m amazed at how people manage to live with and enjoy animals that weigh much more than them, must be quite an unusual living situation!

Esther changed the way Steve and Derek now eat and their living arrangements!

This sounds like a PAWSOME story. It doesn’t matter how big Esther gets, I would love her no matter what!

I can only imagine their shock when they discovered their mini pig was a maxi! It sounds like a wonderful book by two amazing animal lovers.
May 26, 2016
What a shock indeed! I don’t know how many would have gone to the extent they did after finding out Esther was a “maxi” pig.
