Why Does My Dog or Cat Do That?

Why does my dog or cat do that?

Does your dog or cat do things that are don’t make sense or drive you crazy?

This is a list of things that my pug Edie and our cats Lily and Lloyd do that baffle and occasionally annoy me 😉

Edie

Fresh socks are tastier

  •  Sneaks clean, rolled up socks from the laundry – I don’t blame her – who would want to play with dirty socks 😉
  • Edie waits until I sit down to eat or have that much needed coffee to decide she needs to go outside to potty – even after I’ve insisted she go beforehand and she refuses
  • Licks her toys after eating
  • Snorts before going potty
  • Barks at animals on TV
  • Barks at baseball players on TV! – But only the Toronto Blue Jays – I guess this is Edie’s way of cheering them on 🙂
  • Must walk down the stairs on my left side
  • Can tell time – she know exactly when it’s dinner time and lets me know it if I’m late 😉

Lily cat

From the tap please

  • Sits on bathroom sink – sometimes falling asleep, while waiting for someone to turn on the tap for a drink
  • Refuses to touch her kitty litter – instead she “covers up” by scratching the outside of the box
  • Takes off like a shot after doing her business!

Lloyd cat

Why Does My Dog or Cat Do That?

Lets go to bed, I’m tired!

  • Meows at the same time every evening because he wants me to go to bed so he can sleep at my feet
  • Is terrified of new people visiting – stays low to the ground looking for a place to hide (we’ve had Lloyd since he was a kitten and although he is much more relaxed, this is something he has always done)
  • Gently paws my face while I’m sleeping
  • Can tell time – just like Edie, Lloyd is like clockwork for being fed and lets everyone know it!

I realize that some of these actions are out of habit, some make me crazy, and some are just bizarre 😉

  1. BOL!! I totally agree, especially with their ability to tell time. As soon as Shasta gets restless I know it must be close to 7 am or 7 pm, DINNER TIME!!

    • Pets have great internal clocks – especially at dinner time!

  3. Hilarious! Thanks for the smile. I’m so glad I don’t have a Lloyd AND a Rooster (nicknamed because of the early morning wake up call).

  4. My dogs have a lot in common with Edie! What drives Us nuts is that as soon as we turn off the TV for any reason they assume it’s potty time & run to the door. So weird!

    • YES! This happens here too! As soon as Edie hears the click of the TV turning off she wakes from a deep sleep. She thinks something is going to happen, or we are going out. So funny.

  5. Animals are so weird, I love your pets’ quirks!

Matilda is an obsessive face licker, and will put a paw or two on your face to make sure you don’t move, even if she goes up your nose.

    • LOL! This is funny! Maybe Matilda is just helping you clean dinner off your face 🙂

  6. Our dog Sophie barks when she hears people on the stairs. She has lived here since she was a puppy and she barks at everyone as they come downstairs except for me, unless she is in her crate, then she is quiet.

    • Well this is interesting! I hope there’s not many going down the stairs, then it could get very noisy! Bark Bark Bark

  8. Pierre insists on going outside after we eat. He doesn’t need to go it is just a habit from when I used to go outdoors to smoke after eating. I kicked the habit, but he didn’t! LOL!

    • Well bravo for you for kicking the habit!
I guess Pierre still has the habit of going out though 🙂

  9. Literally every time I go to get on the phone or a client Skype call my dogs, who moments before were completely passed out, immediately start playing loudly right next to my desk. Every. Single. Time. It’s like they have some weird 6th sense 😉

    • Yes! OMD! Yes! What is this about? It’s not like they’re being ignored or anything 😉

      • Seriously! Most of the time, we’ve just come back from a hike or something where they were getting my full attention. I mean, how dare I not watch them sleep! 😉

  13. Hey, when I lived in MI I use to bark at the Toronto Blue Jays! 🙂 Edie is such a cutie – and these explanations help us learn more about Edie, Lily and Lloyd! Our pups are nuts – and each have their quirks…the one we like best: watching TV when animals are on. No matter what is going on, if a dog comes on TV one of our pups will stop whatever they are doing, sit down and watch the television!

    Post a Reply
    • I not think we bark at the Toronto Blue Jays for the same reason 😉
When animals are on the TV I bark bark bark! So the humans are not allowed to watch that show – that means more attention for me 😉
